Versions. The Online Update (under the Admin Menu or all games) will
handle this automatically for you. Other Version 16 changes include:
- Improved start-up performance.
- Improved online communication management (protocol level 3) to handle incidences of the arrival of partial and/or multiple
Winsock packets.
- Added support in preparation for the release of "Cribbage" (Game Menu, Toolbar, and help documentation).

enabled, speech in process during the display of a dialog box will stop when a dialog box button is selected.
- Rummy 500: Implementation of a new "Ace Must Be High" rule preference.
This restriction was previously automatic when the Persian deal preference was selected, but it is now a separately

trump card will now be moved to the player's hand instead of the meld area, unless the "Must Meld Dices" rule preference

- Various minor improvements, particularly regarding mouse operation and
animation display.
Versions 15.3 also connect to the new "Find-A-Partner" forum
location (a result of changing website hosting companies). Users of
"Find-A-Partner" must update to version 15.3, as previous
versions will attempt to connect to the old location (which is now defunct).
September 10, 2004
Because our previous hosting company was unable/unwilling to identify and fix the problems
of file server corruptions in a timely manner we have relocated the MeggieSoft
Games website to another website management company.
The online Find-A-Partner Forum will be inoperable until
we release versions 15.3 or the games next week. The new versions will
include the updated connection parameters for the new website location.

These are
maintenance releases to address reported problems, primarily with Pinochle &
Bezique (runtime error at the end of phase one, and promotion of Pinochle to
Double Pinochle not being permitted) and Canasta (occasional runtime error, and
freezing on startup on some
users' systems). The ability to re-order cards in the player's hand has
been fixed in those games which lost this ability in the first release of
versions 15.2. All games also now include better self-protection against
rapid mouse operations interrupting correct card position processing.

& Bezique's capabilities and to consolidate the improvements since the
initial release for versions 15.1.

These add improvements and enhancement to some
operational functions and some bug fixes.

Screen Preference option); cleaner segue when linking from one game to another;
Save/Reset Scoreboard moved from Game Menu to Player Menu; new Message Preference to bypass "Are You Sure?" messages from Game
Menu item selections; ability to "Load and Sleep" via "/S" run switch (designed for use in Windows startup
folder).
Fixes: Problem with tray icon not showing the Restore/Terminate right-click menu when the sleeping/minimized game has the toolbar
enabled; problem with a number of menu items being incorrectly enabled when waiting
for "Start" button; problem with misalignment of display of opponent cards under certain
circumstances (tops chopped off); a small number of individual game bugs.
June 24, 2004
Builds 15105 released.
These releases resolve some lingering issues with card sizing and window maximization.
Also, we received a small number of reports that builds 15104 might have
somehow become infected with a virus/worm. While all our products
are thoroughly checked before release, we are refreshing the website with builds
15105 to be double certain that such problems will not recur. (This
problem was subsequently found to be an error with a McAfee virus signature
update, which McAfee subsequently fixed.)
June 22, 2004
Builds 15104 released.
Reworked card resizing/saving routines.
Introduced new custom card back features - a white frame option and the ability
to shift the target image in the File Selector (left/right or up/down) when the
image file aspect ratio differs from that of the card back. The depression
state of the muting toolbar buttons has been reversed to be more intuitive -
down now means muted, up means unmuted.

releases and the automatic downloading of PDF manuals, plus further improvements to the
deadwood calculations in Gin Rummy.

releases.
June 9. 2004
Versions 15.1 of all games have been released.
All games now include a
menu toolbar (enabled/disabled via Screen Preferences).
NOTE: You must install the Version 15.1 Base Version of at least one game before
you can apply update versions of the other games. (Online Update will
handle this automatically for you.)

These resolve possible AutoMeld-related errors in card operation/display if a double-click
is made just to the left or right of the player's hand.

This improves the determination of the open meld requirement and
introduces a Player Preference to show the net requirement (vs. meldable cards in
hand) or the total requirement.

This fixes serious problem introduced in
version 15 regarding deadwood calculations.

Version 15 of all programs (including the debut of Canasta) have been
released.
The new operational features created for Canasta have been implemented in the other
games as applicable and as appropriate (most of them apply to
melding).
- The new capabilities include: step-by-step undo, temporary tinting of the taken
stock card in your hand, MultiSelect (right-mouse drag over a sequence of
cards), AutoMeld (automatically melding of a MultiSelect group when the mouse
button is released), and double-click melding (when the meld location is
obvious).
- Canasta is offered at the introductory discount of $18 until June 20, 2004.
(This will return to the normal fee of $24 after June 20.)
- MeggieSoft Games has formed an affiliation with NextUp.com for users who wish to
purchase additional, high quality, voices for their systems. Click
Here for further information.
April 4, 2004
A Discussion Forum (hosted by Amazing Forums) is now available via the Home
Page.
March 15, 2004
The registration fees for Rummy 500, Gin Rummy and Pinochle are now $24
per game.
February 27, 2004
Versions 14.6 (builds 14602) have been released.
These resolve a problem with a
fatal error message occurring when using the file selector (e.g., to change to
custom card backs) when the install path is a network path type.
Also resolves two issues with Pinochle: misdealing duplicate cards under
some circumstances, and corruption of the status bar display under some
circumstances when dealing.
Also resolves one issue with Rummy 500: the opponent occasionally failing to
meld a taken discard.
February 13, 2004
Versions 14.6 (builds 14601) released.
These releases support the
impending release of Canasta (Game menu and Help documentation) and include some
maintenance fixes. They also detect when the master volume of the
user's system is set to zero, or is muted, and skip the speech and sound effect
processing (and the associated delays) when they would not be audible
anyway. A base 14.6 version of any one of the games must be installed
before updates may be applied to add additional games.
The registration fees for Rummy 500, Gin Rummy and Pinochle will increase to $24
per game on 15 March 2004.
January 11, 2004
Versions 14.5 (builds 14502) released.
These are maintenance releases
which primarily resolve occasional start-up problems with some older Windows
versions and fix a problem with Player/Undo menu enablement in some of the
games.
December 18, 2003
Versions 14.5 (builds 14501) released.
The major innovation in release 14.5 is the ability to have the games sleep in
the background (instead of terminating) on exit. A sleeping game starts
instantaneously when re-awoken, thus avoiding the delay associated with a fresh
start-up. Additionally, a minimized game window may now be indicated by a
tray icon instead of a task bar entry, thus reducing taskbar clutter.
These new capabilities are part of the Operational Preferences (the new name for
Automatic Preferences). Also, Pinochle fixes some minor
opponent logic errors and all programs include minor bug fixes.
November 16, 2003
Versions 14.4 (builds 14403) released.
These are maintenance releases which resolve a small number of errors
encountered by individual users. Also, Pinochle includes an
opponent logic improvement with respect to melding flushes.
November 7, 2003
Versions 14.4 (builds 14401) released.
These releases include the addition of Bezique rules to
Pinochle - which is now renamed to "Pinochle & Bezique" throughout.
Also a few bugs have been fixed, most notably a problem with a game
failing to start (error code 380) when using a display with a non-standard
aspect ratio (e.g., a dual-monitor display). The Edit menu is now a
detailed Preferences menu (For games that had Edit/Undo, Undo has moved to the
Player menu.)
October 26, 2003
Builds 14302 released.
Improvements include: protection against corrupt game
restorations by preventing exit when the opponent is operating; the restriction on number of unique deals in evaluation mode has been
removed; a problem with TTS4 speech whereby voice settings were not correctly
saved/restored has been fixed.
In addition, an error in Piquet which resulted in the opponent sometimes not
declaring additional sequences and sets has been fixed, and minor improvements
have been made to the Pinochle opponent logic.
Uninstall now includes the option to remove everything (including scoreboards,
etc.), or to de-install only what was installed by the installation process (so
that a re-installation will retain the previous score information, for example).
These releases have larger installation files than previous versions in order to
provide additional security.
September 28, 2003
Fixed website pages - many were not resizing correctly for different
browser window sizes.
September 24, 2003
Versions 14.3 released.
These include a new "Tip Of The Day" feature
and support for an alternative set of artistic playing card designs under
Preferences/Cards (these designs are now available as part of Plus
Pack version 5).
September 14, 2003
Builds 14204 of all games released.
- Euchre & Écarté has been released and is now registerable.
- All games include a new Preference option (in the Cards section) to support
international card corner indices for Aces and court cards. In addition to
the Anglo-American standard of AKQJ, eight additional notations are now
supported including ARDV (French) and AKDB (German).
-
This website is now accessible as www.meggiesoftgames.com.

Update, Game Menu and Help documentation).
- Separate Mouse Preferences section.
- Reorganized menus (more logical groupings of selections) including a new
"Explore" menu.
- A new Handwritten Scoresheet font preference option under Screen Preferences.
- The default background for scoresheet and rules/scoring panels is now a cream color
(this may be reset to Windows default color via Color Preferences).
- New splash screens and Help About displays.
- Mousepointer support now includes options for black & white pointers and online pointers (pointers include a small online icon). These
can be defined/deselected via Mouse Preferences.
- Right-clicking on the Scoresheet or the Rules/Scoring panel is now a direct shortcut to Scoring/Rule preferences.
- The printable manual is now a separately downloadable item, which may be automatically downloaded on
demand from the Help Menu entry.
- The HLP format help files are now downloadable on demand for users who do not have Internet Explorer 4.1 (or later) installed
and therefore cannot process the CHM format file.
July 25 2003
Builds 14107 include further changes to address the start-up freezes affecting a small number of users.
July 24 2003
Builds 14106 released.
These address the start-up freezes affecting a small number of users;
these appear to be related to the detection of whether speech system TTS5.1 is
installed. Error corrections have been made to German Whist (stock
and turn counters getting off track) and Gin Rummy (Hollywood/Series scoreboards
not being classified as such when displaying the Game Scoreboard).
July 6 2003
Builds 14105 released.
These correct "Save Scoreboard?" being erroneously
displayed when the AutoRestore preference is enabled (in which case the
scoreboard is always updated and saved). Added check of online updater
integrity to all games; users experiencing problems with online updater wanting
to constantly update itself should download this latest update (build 14105) of
any game and install it.
July 3 2003
Builds 14104 released.
These resolve a run time error problem when attempting to browse
custom cards when the Plus Pack is not installed. Also an opponent logic
improvement to Pinochle.
July 1 2003
Builds 14103 released to resolve a Run Time Error 6 problem.
June 25 2003

These include a new "Change Name" feature under the Player
menu (all scoreboard records and preference information are transferred to the new name) providing
an easy way to personalize the user interface. Opponent/hint logic
improvement to Pinochle.
Due to unforeseen issues with the new Online Updater, users who are
updating from previous versions must install the version 14.3 base version of at
least one game. This forces an installation of the new updater. If
you use the old Online Update (from a version earlier than 14.3), these actions
will be taken care of
automatically.
June 22, 2003
Versions 14.3 released.
Changes include improvements to Explain ("?" button) feature and "Save Scoreboard" to better assist new
users, plus other improvements to GUI.
New Group Preferences panel for
quick enable/disable of related groups of preferences. Some preference
defaults changed (a few existing users may notice the effect, in which case
merely reset to your liking).
Some improvements to Pinochle opponent card
play logic.
Additionally, revisions and improvements have been made to the Online Update
system, the documentation of which is now included in the help files and user
guides of the individual games. There is no longer a separate icon in the
Start Menu, Online Update is now always run from the Admin menu of any
game. A new menu option manages the deletion of
old installation files (under the Admin menu).
June 1, 2003
German Whist released.
